7. A Safe Place
Betty Greer
A Safe Place is about being the person — or the parent — you need when you feel most vulnerable. It reflects the presence of a parent who was absent or deeply wished for, or the act of caring for your own inner child.
The painting is about holding, offering compassion, steadiness, and a sense of safety. The closeness between the figures matters — it’s protective, reassuring, and grounded in trust.
Together, they face the horizon, representing the life ahead and all that is still unfolding. The child is held and supported as they meet the world.
A Safe Place is something we learn to carry within ourselves. It grows through patience, self-trust, and showing up for ourselves again and again, especially when it’s challenging.
This work is a reminder that we can hold ourselves — or imagine being held — during moments of vulnerability and change.
It is part of the ongoing journey of transformation — learning to nurture ourselves with patience, compassion, and trust as we face what lies ahead.
We are enough.
