True Voice

Betty Greer

This painting explores the moment we move from silence into our own voice. For years, staying quiet can feel safer than speaking up — especially when conflict or consequences shaped the way we learned to exist. The muted tones in the face reflect that history of holding back, of carrying feelings quietly and carefully.

The vibrant colour of the mouth represents the shift that happens when the past no longer has power over us. It’s the point where we can finally say no, set boundaries, and speak honestly without fear. This piece is about stepping into our truth and recognising that our needs matter just as much as anyone else’s. It’s a reminder that finding our voice isn’t loud or dramatic — it’s steady, grounding, and deeply freeing.
