9. Inner Canvas

Betty Greer

Inner Canvas explores the inner landscape that emerges when the body is at rest. When we close our eyes, shifting patterns of light and colour appear—soft movements, flickers, and shapes. These natural phosphenes are part of how the brain processes light, images, and thought.

This inner light show is our own ever-changing artwork. Each person’s patterns are unique, emerging from the simple act of seeing and resting the eyes. Inner Canvas reflects this private, internal imagery, a reminder of the creativity and movement that exists within us.

The painting invites the viewer to slow down and turn attention inward, away from noise and outward pressure. It isn’t a place to visit but a moment to enter — where the body softens, the mind quiets, and awareness gently settles into the present. In this pause, space opens, and we reconnect with our own inner rhythms.

It’s a reminder that by pausing and turning inward, we can process our thoughts, notice what’s shifting inside, and move forward with more clarity and ease.
