A Safe Place 2_edited.jpg

Behind this painting

This painting is about learning how to become a safe place for myself.

Until now, my path tested my endurance — standing through difficult times and learning how much I could carry. But there came a point where that way of living was no longer sustainable. I had to pause everything and allow myself time to be supported and rebuilt.

I began therapy and was asked to imagine a safe place I could return to when things felt overwhelming. For me, imagining being held by a parent was not an option.  My mother was unable to offer that kind of care, and my father was not present in my childhood.

So this painting became about something different — learning how to offer that steadiness to myself.

It reflects the slow process of reparenting — meeting my own emotions with more care, and learning that safety can also be something we build within ourselves.

In the painting, the closeness between the figures holds protection and trust as they look toward what comes next.

A moment to reflect

In what ways do you offer yourself safety and support?
