Behind this painting
This painting is about the moment we begin to be ourselves — rather than the version of ourselves we thought others needed us to be.

For a long time I shaped myself around others — adjusting how I expressed myself, holding back how I truly felt, smoothing my edges to keep things comfortable. It felt like the safest way to move through the world.

But slowly something shifted. I began to understand that the most honest and freeing thing I could do was simply to be myself — and that the connections which truly mattered would not only survive that honesty, they would deepen because of it.

In the painting, the act of removing the mask reflects that moment of change. The effort in the hands and face is intentional — because choosing to be yourself takes courage. But on the other side of that courage is something worth everything.

Freedom.
A moment to reflect
Is there a part of yourself that is ready to be seen more fully?
