Inner Canvas by Betty Greer_edited.jpg

Behind this painting

This painting is about what begins to emerge when we allow ourselves to truly rest.

After moving through periods of overwhelm, I learned to recognise the early signs when tension was building again — and to respond with care rather than push through it. Rest and stillness became something I returned to regularly, and in those moments something unexpected began to happen.

When the body truly settles, the mind offers something remarkable. Colours, movement, and light appear behind closed eyes. New thoughts, ideas, and realisations begin to surface — not forced, but arriving naturally in the space that stillness creates.

I became curious about this inner experience and what it might look like if it were brought onto canvas.

In the painting, the shifting colours and forms reflect that inner landscape — something that isn't fixed, but constantly moving and alive as the mind finds its ease.

A moment to reflect

When you close your eyes and breathe, what do you notice first — your thoughts, your body, or something else entirely?
